The Patrician Grill, 219 King St. E.

2 stars (out of 5)

Maybe my expectations were too high…it’s a greasy spoon after all.

This visit was for breakfast…9:30 on a Monday. Bad first impression…no decaf coffee, unless you count instant. The tea was lukewarm. The veggie omelette was decent, except the included cheese was a Kraft single. Ouch. Home fries were soft and tasteless. Could have used some fried onions. Whole wheat toast was basically Wonder brown bread.

Decent value for a pedestrian breakfast, but I’ve had much better at other greasy spoons.

NB. This is where it all started.  The first stop in what was to be a limited, weekly “Spoon Tour” with friends, based on a local web site’s “Top 12 Greasy Spoons in Toronto”.  Now that we’ve been to over 70 (as of Oct. ’11), their “Top 12” could have been picked out of a hat.
